Work Experience (WEX) to CERN for the Secondary students of EEB3
Dear students, Dear parents,
We are pleased to announce our cooperation with CERN, the European research organization that operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world.
CERN's main function is to provide the particle accelerators and other infrastructure needed for high-energy physics research – as a result, numerous experiments have been constructed at CERN through international collaborations.
Scientists, engineers, IT specialists, human resources specialists, accountants, writers, technicians and many other kinds of people working together to break barriers to achieve the seemingly impossible.
On 4 July 2012, CERN announced the ATLAS and Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiments had seen strong indications for the presence of a new particle, which could be the Higgs boson, in the mass region around 126 Gigaelectron Volts (GeV). On October 2013, Peter Higgs, from the UK, and Francois Englert from Belgium have won the Nobel prize in physics for their work on the theory of the Higgs boson.
CERN agrees to accept students from European School Brussels III for an one week working experience program (WEX) starting from February 2021.
The program will be online for this year.
The aim of this week’s programme will be to introduce the students to the world of particle physics: our basic knowledge about the fundamental constituents of matter and the forces between them, the open questions, how research is conducted in an international research centre, the tools and methods used, the ideas for the future, the applications for society.
The program contains Virtual Visits, Masterclasses, Data Analysis, Presentations from Scientists and much more.
It will be a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn about science, to meet famous scientists and to understand the way that Scientists, engineers, IT specialists, human resources specialists, accountants, writers, technicians and many other kinds of people work together at CERN for the humanity.
If you are interested in participating in the first online CERN’s working experience week (Monday the 15th to Friday the 20th, February 2021) please express your interest by sending your motivation letter to WEX email address:
Deadline: Wednesday the 3rd, February 2021
The program is addressed to S5 students, to S6 (priority will be given to those who did't have the opportunity of previous working experience during school year 2019-2020) and to S7 (priority will be given to those who didn't have the opportunity of previous working experience during the school years 2018-2020).
We are at your disposal for any questions. Kind regards,
Georgios CHRISTOFI Theodosia ANTONIADOU Catherine HODARA-MICOLIE
