Invitation to Open House Speed Consultations 26 January, 2019

Dear Members and Friends of ADHD, ASC & LD Belgium

You will be pleased to hear that we have gathered together a number of local Healthcare Professionals to participate in our Open House on 26 January, 2019 so that you can have free 20-minute consultations with them and learn about some of the therapies that help children and adolescents who have ADHD, Autistic Spectrum features, Dyslexia, etc.

Many of the therapies showcased at the event can be a great help to all children no matter what the diagnosis or age - and some of them can also help parents.

Healthcare professionals will each be assigned a table in the Fellowship Hall and we will now give you a short description of the therapies which will be presented -

1.      Are you curious to know more about Art Therapy and how it can help your child and teen.  We have a qualified therapist, Angela, who will display her Art Therapy table.  She has also worked as a teacher, and can answer your questions about how she uses art.

2.      If you have ever wondered what "Body Talk" is and how it can help, you will have an opportunity to learn more about it from a very well qualified practitioner, Patty. The BodyTalk System seeks to address the "whole person". This means that no aspect of the human psyche can be overlooked, be it emotional, physical or environmental.  It is recommended for parents as well as children and teens.

3.      Likewise, if you are wondering how Vision Therapy could possibly help remove some barriers to learning for your child / teen, you will have the chance to find out more about this and even get an initial evaluation at this event from Benoit, who is a Functional Optometrist.

4.      Those of you who have dyslexic children may have heard of the Davis Dyslexia Method, but have not had a chance to speak to someone about it.  This is your opportunity to learn more from Juana.

5.      Parenting Classes are available from Aiste, a Psychologist who works with children who have social, behavioral or emotional challenges. She helps them manage everyday life by accepting their perspective (including role play), teaching skills (including cognitive behavioral techniques, CBT) and using projective techniques, such as sand play.  She also helps parents with ‘positive discipline’.

6.      Mindfulness for children, will be presented by Emilia, who has several years experience of working with young schoolchildren. Many people have heard of mindfulness, and here is your chance to discover more about it.

7.      'Designing Inclusive Education with STEAM & Social Impact'!  Analogue to Digital is an education programme, that provides a variety of projects. 'Re-designing' a new way of Education by linking creative and digital play. Building confidence, nurturing skills and creativity.  Digital inclusion for neuro-diverse and neuro-typical youth/children. 'Designed' by Rozina Spinnoy with her son is on the Autism Spectrum. Facing a variety of challenges over the years and creating positive impact with this programme. Co-created with a 'child-centred' approach with children, for children. Want to know more? Come along and have a chat.

8.      Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) can be used by children, teens and adults.  It can be used for a specific problem eg dental phobia, or for a more general feeling of well-being.  EFT has proven very useful to many people - in particular for people (diagnosed or not) with ADHD, Dyslexia, Stress and Anxiety, etc.  It is a non-invasive and a non-medicinal therapy, and Jeanine will be happy to answer your questions.

9.      PAGS is a new system designed to help schools assess the strengths and weaknesses of autistic pupils.  Feliciea, the founder of this new system will be available to talk about it.

10.  Last, but not least, we present Natasha, a professional new to us, who can help parents learn more about ‘Burn Out’ and how to prevent it - it sounds like an interesting discussion

In addition there will also be people available to answer questions about

ADHD / dyslexia
Autism Spectrum conditions
and a Tutor and Coach for youngsters with ADHD

We are hoping one or two other professionals will confirm their attendance.  This will be announced via our Social Media on Facebook and LinkedIn.

In short, this will help you meet a variety of different local specialists (no strings attached) so that you can have an idea what they do and if what they have on offer is something that would be useful for your family. This is a once-a-year opportunity for us to share our resources with you and we do hope that you find the time to drop by on that afternoon.

As you see, this event is free for our members. For non-members, the fee for the entire event is 12 Euro each.
