APEEE parents survey on mobile phone policy for EEB3
APEEE parents survey on mobile phone policy for EEB3
Dear parents,
Our school is currently preparing an EEBIII Code of Conduct on the Use of Mobile Devices at school. The idea is to have a whole school policy on the use of mobile phones at school as an Annex to the Good Behaviour Policy document.
The school is consulting the APEEE on parents’ views on the school’s proposal.
Under this proposal, the following terms would apply:
- Nursery and Primary students: the use of mobile devices is prohibited for students in nursery and primary. Parents are advised not to provide their children with mobile devices to take to school.
- S1-S3 students: students in S1, S2 and S3 are not allowed to use mobile devices at school. If a student has a compelling reason to bring one, the device must remain turned off and stored in the student’s school bag during school hours.
- S4-S5 students AND
- S6 and S7 students are allowed to use mobile devices in designated areas and in accordance with school rules.
- S4 and S5 students are provisionally permitted to use mobile devices.
- All mobile devices are banned in classrooms (unless approved for educational purposes by the teacher), corridors, staircases, toilets, laboratories, the library, and the canteen.
- Permitted areas include school playgrounds and outdoor spaces, the Cervantes study room, cafeteria, and the study room (Etude).
- Recording restriction: recording videos or audio on school premises is not allowed unless directed by a teacher for educational purposes.
- An assessment of mobile device usage by S4 and S5 students will be conducted at the end of the 2024-2025 school year with a view to deciding if they will continue to be allowed to use mobile devices for the 2025-2026 school year.

In order to get a fully representative view of all parents with students at our school, we would like to ask for your opinion on how you think mobile devices should be used by students at school during the school day. The school day begins when students arrive at school and ends when they leave school (i.e. the school day does not cover the journey to the school, e.g. by the school bus which is handled by the APEEE and where mobile devices remain authorised).
We would like you to complete this survey by 15 March 2024. It is very short, will take less than 5 minutes to complete, and your answers will remain anonymous.
Thank you for your feedback!
