Postponement of the Bal du Bac 2020 to 2021

Dear Parents,

Over the past five months, APEEE and the parents of the Bal du Bac Organising Committee have been closely following the development of the pandemic while examining possible alternatives for the implementation of this important event, so eagerly awaited by our 7th grade students.

Even given the recent measures which would be in force on 1 July (the date that was initially planned for 2020 Bac Ball),  the restrictions in terms of maximum number of participants, the safety measures and the reduced time for preparation would not allow an organisation at the level of usual expectations.  Therefore, the proposal to postpone it to next year, thus holding it at the same time (Wednesday 30 June 2021) as the one to be planned for S7 students in school year 2020-2021, was seen as the most viable.

The position referred to above was accepted by the school management and the educational adviser of the 7th grade, Ms Konstantina Liontou, considering that any other option would have had the direct consequence of a shortened or, in any case, much changed version of this event. Consequently, the proposal to postpone the Bal du Bac to July 2021 was submitted to the 7th grade students. The latter gave a clear answer via a survey conducted by the Pupils Committee: 114 out of 125 Bac 2020 students answered in the affirmative.

The Bal du Bac will therefore take place on the 30 June 2021 and be open to those awarded the BAC in 2020 and 2021. APEEE made sure that the venue capacity could be modified to allow participants from both years, while S6 students could also be invited for the after-dinner drink.

This solution will allow the students of the Bac 2020 to have a "real Bal du Bac", which has been waited for so long. They deserve this, after having endured such difficult months during lockdown. At that moment, the event will mark a big gathering of our student community and hopefully the end of a long period of stress and uncertainty for all humankind.

The APEEE wishes to thank the 2020 Bal du Bac Organising Committee members for their involvement in the preparations and for their valuable assistance in this complex decision.

All parents and students concerned will receive all relevant information for the 2021 event in the autumn of 2020.

We wish our 7th grade students a very successful Baccalaureate, pleasant holidays and a wonderful start to the new phase of life in their university studies.

See you next year for what will be a memorable party!
