Enrolment in European Schools

Your children are growing up and the crèche will soon be a distant memory? Here is all you need to know if you wish to send them to a European School.

Don't forget to apply between 13 and 31 January

In particular, please note that:

·         Parents in post on 31 December 2019 - submission of the application during the first phase (13 to 31 January 2020) is mandatory.

·         Parents taking up their posts as from 1 January 2020 can submit the application during the first or second phase.

·         Pupils are admitted to the nursery school at the beginning of the school year in the calendar year in which the child reaches four years of age (i.e. for the 2020/2021 year, the children born in 2016).

·         Pupils are admitted to primary year 1 at the beginning of the school year in the calendar year in which the child reaches six years of age (i.e. for the 2020/2021 year, the children born in 2014).

·         Children who attend the school during the 2019/2020 school year will be enrolled automatically for the 2020/2021 school year.

·         Children in the final year of the nursery school and who meet the age requirement will be enrolled automatically into the first year of the primary school.

You can get the required certificate concerning parents' employment status (annex 1) via Sysper (Rights & Privileges / Request administrative certificates / Certificate for European Schools)

·         The enrolment forms – with ALL the documents required – must be handed in or sent by post (regular mail, registered letter or express mail) to the secretariat of the school corresponding to the first preference specified on the enrolment form.

It is important to note that the European Schools are not international schools where parents can choose the language in which their children are educated. A fundamental principle of the European Schools is the teaching of mother tongue/dominant language as first language. This principle implies the pupil's enrolment in the section of his/her mother tongue/dominant language where such a section exists.

If you would like to visit one of the schools, you can find information on "Open Door" days for potential new parents on the schools' websites. You can also get in touch with the persons responsible for enrolment in the individual schools:
