Darkness Into Light Walk 2024

 Darkness into Light is an annual fundraiser event for Pieta House, a charity in Ireland which provides counselling to anyone struggling with suicide or for anyone impacted by suicide. Participants meet before dawn on a Saturday in May and walk or run 5 km to meet the sunrise for an incredibly uplifting experience.

In the lead up to the walk on 11th May, the Darkness Into Light Belgium Committee, will be walking for the 1,732 people who died by suicide in one year, in Belgium. One kilometer for each life, and one for those who grieve for them.  We have already walked over 1000 kilometres, and we are placing yellow heart #1732 stickers in locations where we walk – look out for the stickers in your neighbourhood.

Last year’s campaign raised almost 30,000 euros, of which 26,000 euros was donated to two Belgian partner charities and Pieta received almost 4,000 euros. This year the committee aims to raise even more funds to help with the very important work that is done by these organisations to support people with suicidal ideation.

The walk is open to everyone young and old, dogs are also welcome. 

In Belgium, the main walk will take place on 11th May at 5am in Parc du Cinquantenaire/Jubelpark, Brussels. Other walks will take place in locations across Belgium, including Bruges, Tervuren, Zaventem, Laeken, Ghent.
