Springfest 2022 Sustainable Fashion show!

Strutting to the beat of Stromae, Queen and the Eurythmics, students modelled outfits at this year`s Fashion Show, held over two days during Springfest.

29 students from S2 – S7 (some of whom have never sewn before) created outfits based on this year´s theme: Space Odyssey and three sub-themes: Apocalypse, Futurist, Galactic.

Highlights included: a painted cosmic cloak, hand drawn spaceship dress, a bustier made of 35mm film rolls, an outfit made of cds, trousers with LED-illuminated 3D printed panels, creative wire head gear and beaded boot covers in crushed velvet.

Students showcased their talents by using many techniques: knitting, crocheting, beadwork, lace appliques, cut-outs, tie-dye, elastic scrunching, boning for structure and lacing for shaping.

There was plenty of transparency, iridescence, sequins and pvc. Bubble braids were trending along with glittery cheekbones and shaded eyes in cosmic colours.

The added challenge this year was to focus on upcycling. Student designers were encouraged to look in their own closets to transform used garments or to source fabric remnants and end-of-roll pieces at local eco-merceries, such as R-Use Fabrik in Ixelles or CYCLUP downtown.

Special thanks to the students and staff who volunteered ´behind the scenes´ with modelling, make-up & hair, music, lighting, décor, photography and videography.

The Fashion Show is one of the most anticipated events of Springfest and once again our spirits were uplifted by the creativity of the designs. We are all looking forward to seeing what next year will bring!
